技術資料保存の意義を強調した論考

著者の当時の所属は通商産業省生活産業局。本論考において著者は、「産業技術の歴史に係る活動は,記録・保存,集大成・体系化および提示の3分野から構成される.記録・保存は,技術革新の現場に携わった人々の生きた証言を記録にとどめることであり,また,研究ノート,会議録などの資料や製品,試作品などの記念物を,生の歴史を消失しないように保存することである.産業技術の歴史に係る活動の基盤として必要欠くべからざるものである.」とするとともに、「現状において,記録・保存に関しては,生きた証言の記録は限られた例が見られるのみであり,資料,記念物も年月を経るほどに散逸,消失が進んでいる.集大成・体系化に関しては,社史,業界史などの例は多く見受けられるものの,「人間の歴史」や体系化された「技術の歴史」として取りまとめられている場合はほとんどない.また,科学技術史の研究者による活動も見られるが,戦後の産業技術の歴史に係わる研究は少ない.」としている。

20世紀初頭の上記雑誌に関して、下記の号などを、Internet Archiveより全文ダウンロードできる。

［参考情報］hathitrust.orgにおいて、”Electric vehicles”でタイトル検索した結果の中には、1890年代の新聞”Electrical Age”などが”Electric vehicles”というでタイトルで表示されているので注意が必要である。またElectric vehicles, Vol.6-7(1915)，Vol.7-8(1916)，Vol.10(1917),　Vol.10(1917)[Vol.10-11と表示されているのは誤りで、Vol.10しか収録されていない]は、カラー表紙がグレー表示になっている。

Smales, Bernard J.(1975) Economic History,Made Simple Books, p.33によると、1775-1800年にBouton-Watt商会による蒸気機関の用途別台数は下記の通りである。
　
綿工場（Cotton mills） 84
炭鉱（Collieries） 30
鋳物工場および鉄工所（Foundries and forges） 28
銅鉱山（Copper mines） 22
運河（Canals） 18

蒸気機関に関する図版

セーバリー型蒸気機関で揚水し動力水車を駆動させるPeter Keirの動力機(1793-94)、ニューコメン型蒸気機関、ワット型蒸気機関など、蒸気機関に関する図版が10頁にわたり、何十点か収録されている。
当該の頁は、pdf版ではp.249, p.251, p.253, p.255, p.257, p.259, p.261, p.263, p.265, p.267である。
